Research Innovations: Early Innovations in Computer Science Research Applications to Medicine
1974
Computer Science separates from Applied Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science is founded as one of the first independent computer science departments in the world.
1975
Jerome R. Cox, Jr. serves as the first Department Chair (1975-1991).
1980's
Research Innovationsm: Leadership in the Development of High Performance Networks and their Applications
1980's-1990's
Research Innovations: Contributions to the Theory and Practice of Distributed Computing
1992
Jonathan Turner serves as Department Chair (1992-1997 and 2007-2008).
1997
Gruia-Catalin Roman serves as Department Chair (1997-2007 and 2008-2011).
2002
The department changes name to Computer Science and Engineering to reflect newly acquired responsibility for the computer engineering program, which prior to this date was offered through a joint venture with the Department of Electrical Engineering.
2009
Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering degree is offered for the first time.

Jeremy Buhler serves as Department Chair (2011-2013).

Roch Guerin serves as Department Chair (2013-present).
